With her drawing of a lady in a three tiered dress at the age of three, Karen Robey started her artistic perspective of life at an early age. Always drawing her interpretations of the world, Karen's artistic ability blossomed and developed as she did from childhood to young woman and on to adulthood. Her artwork which includes fine crafts: pottery, jewelry, cloth dolls, bead making, and fine art: acrylic painting, drawing, and collage. Karen Robey possesses a lifetime of broad exposure, desire, and understanding of the visual arts, music and the business profession. Her life is dedicated to creating art pieces. She has worked with many artists and taught in museums and schools which significantly strengthened and broadened her ability to deliver rare and unique works of art. Karen has participated in Open Studios, has had her artwork featured in many galleries, festivals, shops, and businesses, which reflects her philosophy of seeing art as an extension of community attitude.
Karen's Cut Paper Collages were developed in 1997 after researching an interest in Chinese Paper Cutting. It was during this research that she began experimenting with this age-old craft and began making it her own. By becoming intrigued with the pieces of paper cut from the paper cutting, she chose to use these pieces to create a work of art. Along with these pieces of cut paper combined with her interest and love for quilts, mosaics, stained glass and collage, she feels she has created a unique art form she has coined Cut Paper Collage. The materials she uses in her collages consist mainly of acrylic painted rice papers glued onto a stretched canvas.
Karen's most recent series of collages are vintage inspired. Within the vintage collection is a series of collage works based on the supernatural healing powers of Fairies. Because of her love for Fairies, dreaming, creating, and sharing her creative expression, the Fairy World has granted Karen the exclusive right to capture them and their healing powers in her collage works. Now they can be brought into your own life and home for personal healing.
