Teresa Murphy is an artist from the small coastal town of Santa Cruz. Drawing on her love of San Francisco (just up the coast) Teresa photographs and paints city portraits. As fleeting moments in time, her paintings are full of the pople and neighborhoods that make up the hilly metropolis. Paintings in acrylics she captures the reflections, light and shadows that mingle with the frenetic movement of the city. The process is long and excavating. Nearly every detail is measured, calculated and sketched before the painting can begin. The excitement and anticipation of seeing a piece develop and unfold is motivating and it is a quiet and meditative practice for this single mother of two. Teresa is inspired by urban and mural art and has also painted cityscapes on terra-cotta pots and vases. She has displayed her art in various cafe and retail spaces in her home town of Santa Cruz and currently has works on display at Galleria Tempest in San Francisco. more
